Here we go

When I left work yesterday went got in Sunny and turned the key and ….. nothing. No sound no nothing. The radio started and the lights came on. Not being well versed in engines I caught a ride with someone else and decided to have it towed home. However, the more I thought about it the more I wondered if it was the battery. I called the towing company and told them what it was doing and they said yes it sounded like the battery. I got a friend to meet me at the car and we jumped it off and I drove it home. After sitting for 30 minutes I tried to start it again and it eventually turned over. So add to my list battery. The only thing I can think of is that I left something on, note to self check everything is off before getting out.

First Real Drive

I drove Sunny to work today. I had a passenger so was very aware of how small the car is, but I love it. While driving noticed the fuel gauge does not work so made a note of that. So here is my list for the drive.

1.      Fuel gauge

2.      Odometer

3.      Drivers side door weather stripping

4.      Drivers side mirror

5.      Passenger side mirror (not sure if there is suppose to be one)

6.      Passenger side door would not open today so need to check.

7.      The visors on driver side need clip and need one for passenger side

8.      Door panel on passenger side

9.      Hand grip on drivers side missing

10.   Drivers side seat beat is twisted and really worn and tends to choke

I will continue to list and try and update as I go. I’m hoping to get it registered this weekend and maybe get the seat fixed. I also plan on getting a new battery for my camera and will post some pictures.

Beginnings

This is my account of the restoration of a 1973 Super Beetle. I have wanted to do this for awhile and decided to take the plunge. I looked over many ads and decided on this car. The engine was rebuilt three years ago so it is in pretty good condition. This is good because I don’t really have the garage space to work on a motor. Having said that this project is mainly a cosmetic restoration.

When I test drove the car (from here on known as Sunny) I noticed the brakes pedal went all the way to the floor. I knew this would have to go in the shop. I won’t go into details about that ordeal let’s just say they work now.

The first few things I need to do is 1. Replace the seals around the window because it leaks, 2. Fix the odometer, and 3. Fix the seat so it can be adjusted. I will post pictures of the interior and the exterior showing what needs to be done and my progress. For now this is the beginning.
